All Ordinaries Index

Formerly, Australia's premier market measurement tool, the All Ordinaries represents 500 companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. The index's purpose is measurement of the entire Australian market. Liquidity factors are not a consideration in this index, with the exception of foreign domiciled companies. The All Ordinaries comprised 99% of the Australian market as of August 31, 2000.

S&P/ASX 20 Index

ASX code: XTL
The S&P/ASX 20 Index comprises 20 of the largest stocks in Australia, with an emphasis on liquidity and investability. The index is primarily recognized by the retail community and has been used for a number of retail products. It will always have 20 stocks and get new constituents from the S&P/ASX 50. It is the narrowest index available from Standard & Poor's in Australia.

S&P/ASX 50 Index

The S&P/ASX 50 Index comprises 50 of the largest stocks in Australia, with an emphasis on liquidity and investability. The index is primarily recognized by the retail community and has been used for a number of retail products. It will always have 50 stocks and get new constituents from the S&P/ASX 100.

S&P/ASX 100 Index

ASX code: XTO
The S&P/ASX 100 is Australia's premier large capitalisation equity index. The index comprises 100 stocks selected by the S&P/ASX Australian Index Committee. The number of companies in this index will always be fixed at 100. When an index constituent is removed, it will be immediately replaced by a company in the S&P/ASX 200, but which is not in the S&P/ASX 100 index. Each stock is evaluated for liquidity and size. The S&P/ASX 100, launched in April of 2000 is sufficiently liquid to support derivatives trading and fund composition, and sufficiently broad to attract international investors to the Australian market. The S&P/ASX 100 index represented approximately 86% of the total market capitalisation of the Australian Market as of August 31, 2000.

S&P/ASX 200 Index

The S&P/ASX 200 Index comprises the S&P/ASX 100 plus an additional 100 stocks, with an emphasis on liquidity and investability. Representing the top two tiers of S&P/ASX 300 stocks, the S&P/ASX 200 Index provides investors and fund managers with an effective benchmark for Australian equity performance, yet with an emphasis on broader representation. There will always be a fixed number of companies, 200, in this index. When an index constituent is removed, it will be immediately replaced by a company in the S&P/ASX 300, but which is not in the S&P/ASX 200 index. The S&P/ASX 200 index represented approximately 89% of the total market capitalisation of the Australian Market as of August 31, 2000.

S&P/ASX 300 Index

The S&P/ASX 300 Index represented 91% of the Australian market as of August 31, 2000. The index includes stocks in the S&P/ASX 100 and S&P/ASX 200 indices in addition to another 100 companies in the Australian market. This index provides a broad benchmark for fund managers. The S&P/ASX 300 index may not always contain 300 components. Companies removed from this index will be replaced when a suitable candidate is available from the pool of eligible companies, or at the quarterly review. At Each quarterly review, the number of companies included in the index will be reset to 300.

S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index

ASX code: XSO
The S&P/ASX Australian SmallCap Index comprises the smallest representatives of the S&P/ASX 300 Composite Index. This index provides a benchmark for small cap investments. The companies included in this index are companies included in the S&P/ASX 300 index, but not in the S&P/ASX 100 index.
