How and when are company announcements published ?

ASX makes announcements available on www.asx.com.au in the following way:

1. Announcement headline. When an announcement is released to the market by ASX's Company Announcements Office, a headline is also released. This headline is posted on ASX's website, www.asx.com.au, and is the same headline that is released to ASX's trading system SEATS and all other information vendors.

Normal business hours for the ASX Company Announcements Office are 8.30am to 8.30pm Sydney time, Monday to Friday on ASX Trading Days.

2. PDF of the full text. The full text of the announcement is available in PDF format on the website. The conversion process usually takes only a few minutes. However, there may be a longer delay if the announcement is particularly large. PDF files of ASX announcements are available for announcements released since 3 May 2003.

3. Edited text of announcement. The announcement is also sent to an ASX editor who summarises the text and then releases it via Signal G. Signal G is an ASX information service which provides an edited and summarised version of announcements received by ASX. Once the announcement has been released via Signal G, it is available via ASX's website at least twenty minutes later. Edited text versions of announcement are available from January 1998 to present.

The time between the release of the announcement to the market by the ASX Company Announcements Office and the publication of the announcement on Signal G will vary. This variation may be due to a large number of announcements being received during peak company reporting periods (PDF 11KB). Announcements which are rated as price sensitive are given priority, so non-price sensitive announcements may take longer to be published. Particularly long announcements may be published on Signal G in several parts, with each part being labelled with a letter (as in Part A, B, C) and published individually.

PDF tips:
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the announcements. To view PDF files on any site, you will need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This can be downloaded for free at the Adobe website.

Many of these files are quite large. Some annual reports can be more than 100 pages and several megabytes in size. You may be worried about the time it may take to view these files. To minimise this issue, make sure that you are using Adobe Reader version 4 or above. This version allows 'page at a time downloading'. This is a terrific feature which retrieves only the page of the document you are viewing. It means that you can view a huge document without actually having to download it all first.

If you would like to save a copy of the PDF to your computer to allow you to view it whilst not connected to the internet, use the 'diskette icon' which will appear immediately above the PDF once it has loaded. Once you click this icon, a 'save file' dialogue box will appear, prompting for a filename/location to save the PDF. Once you have chosen the location, click the Save button and your download will begin. Depending on the size of the announcement and your connection to the internet, the download can take anywhere between a few seconds to a number of minutes.

One of the most powerful features of the Aspect Image Signal PDF file format is that it allows you to conduct text searches on the announcement even though it may appear that you are looking at an image and not a text searchable document. To conduct a text search on an announcement, once it is loaded click on the 'binoculars icon'. Enter your search word or phrase in the dialog box once it opens.
